Microsoft Anti-Cross Site Scripting Library V4.2
|
The Microsoft Anti-Cross Site Scripting Library V4.2 (AntiXSS V4.2) is an encoding library designed to help developers protect their ASP.NET web-based applications from XSS attacks. It differs from most encoding libraries in that it uses the white-listing technique -- sometimes referred to as the principle of inclusions -- to provide protection against XSS attacks. This approach works by first defining a valid or allowable set of characters, and encodes anything outside this set (invalid characters or potential attacks). The white-listing approach provides several advantages over other encoding schemes.

Are Google and Apple really monopolies?
|
You hear the word "monopoly" thrown around a lot these days, especially about Google and Apple. After Google's bid to acquire Motorola, the integration of Google signals in Google Search, and the announcement of Google's consolidation of privacy policies and data gathering across Google services, critics have been saying Google has a monopoly in the search market.

Google Contractors Vandalised OpenStreetMap Data
|
Fascinating. After the whole Mocality story, we were greeted by another story of Google misconduct. This time, it's OpenStreetMap, which claims that users connecting from the same Google IP addresses in India as in the Mocality incident are vandalising OpenStreetMap data. Google has confirmed to ReadWriteWeb that two contractors acting on their own behalf while on the Google network were responsible. Another, less serious instance of Google misconduct, perhaps, but OpenStreetMap's handling of this issue does smell fishy.

Gears of War 3's "Fenix Rising" DLC: For hardcore multiplayers only
|
|
The first three DLC packs for Gears of War 3 seem to each have been created with different players in mind. "Horde
Command" was obviously aimed at fans of Horde mode, and the fact that all three of the new
maps in this first DLC pack were later bundled for free with remakes of two maps from the original Gears of War suggests the lasting value of the pack lay in the fortification upgrades. The
second DLC pack, "Raam’s Shadow," was geared towards campaign fans, and now "Fenix Rising" (available
for 800 Microsoft Points, or $10) seems aimed directly at Gears 3's online multiplayer die-hards.
Five new multiplayer maps make up the bulk of the new content in this DLC offering, and each one is designed to represent a distinct stage in the journey of series protagonist Marcus Fenix. While all five maps are playable in Versus, Horde, and Beast modes, we focused mainly on Versus mode in our testing.
